Easy Kid Cereal and Oatmeal Recipes

Easy kid cereal and oatmeal recipes including apple and pear oatmeal, breakfast cereal cups and other kid friendly breakfast recipes.

Banana Cinnamon Oatmeal 

Ingredients:

1/2 cup old-fashion oats
1 1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup water
1 banana peeled and mashed
pinch of ground cinnamon

Directions:

Put the oats, milk and water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer gently for five minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and creamy. Add the banana and cinnamon. Mix well and serve.

 

Healthy Tip:

 

Good source of fiber and energy.

Apple & Pear Oatmeal  Recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 cup old-fashion oats
1 1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup water
1 apple (chopped into small pieces or grated)
1 ripe pear (chopped into small pieces)

Directions:

Put all the ingredients into a saucepan and heat gently for five minutes, stirring often, until the mixture has thickened.

 

Healthy Tip:

 

Contains good source of protein, calcium, potassium, vitamin B, fiber and energy.

Apricot Honey Oatmeal 

* This recipe contains honey and is not suitable for children under 24 months.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup old-fashion oats
1 1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup finely chopped apricots (fresh or dried)
1 tablespoon honey  

Directions:

If using dried apricot soak in a bowl of hot water for 30 minutes prior to cooking. Put all the ingredients, except the honey, into a saucepan and heat gently for five minutes, stirring often, until the mixture has thickened. Add honey. Stir well and serve.

 

Healthy Tip:

 

Good source of protein, calcium, potassium, vitamin B, fiber and energy.

Kid-Friendly Muesli  Recipe

Ingredients:

2 shredded wheat biscuit
1/2 cup bran flakes
1/2cup rice cereal (Rice Krispies, etc.)
2/3 cup your choice dried fruit (chopped finely)
2 teaspoons desiccated coconut (optional)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients. Serve with milk and top with fruit or honey.

 

Apple & Oats Crumble 

Ingredients:

2 small apples (pealed and cored)
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 tablespoon rolled oats

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Thinly slice the peeled and cored apple. Place apple in a lightly buttered small baking dish and set aside. Pour flour into small bowl, add butter and mix. Stir in brown sugar and oats and mix well. Sprinkle flour mixture over apples. Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until slightly browned.

 

Extra Tip:

 

Fruit crumbles are a delicious warming breakfast for kids, but make sure not to add too much sugar. This one is fairly low in sugar and uses whole wheat flour. Try adding different fruits for variation too… Pears and peaches go great with this.

 

Yogurt & Cereal Cups 

Ingredients:

These yogurt cups look really cute, try to use a clear plastic cup so they can see the layering.

1/2 cup yogurt of choice
1/4 cup cereal of choice
1/4 cup fruit of choice (cut into small pieces)

Directions:

Use a clear small cup (if possible) for this recipe so kids can see the layers. Add 1/2 cup yogurt to bottom of cup. Layer on top with 1/4 cup of cereal (try granola or muesli). Layer 1/4 cup fruit on top of cereal.
